Last week I had the opportunity to attend ‘Beyond 2015: Towards a New Consensus on Ending Global Poverty;’ a three-day international and interdisciplinary workshop at Ryerson University, in Toronto. And while there were many amazing, interesting and inspiring speakers, I really enjoyed listening to Dr. Joseph Wong, a Canada Research Chair and Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto, and the Director of the Asian Institute at the Munk School of Global Affairs. A while Dr. Wong only spoke for about half an hour of so, it was principally his discussion of visibility and the welfare state, pointing to some of the most seemingly basic problems... -
